Email Usage

Hello, from Hello.

As we start 2017 feeling refreshed and energised or perhaps evaluating our lives, wondering how to get that work life balance…. I came across this:

French workers secure ‘right to disconnect’ from office emails… I am sure we are all guilty of checking emails on a weekend, evening and even whilst on holiday but actually securing the right to disconnect seems a little farfetched? Surely we all have the right to disconnect from office emails?

From 1 January 2017, France have taken the plunge and under a new employment law, firms with more than 50 workers will have to negotiate with employees to agree their rights to ignore their smartphones! With a young family to enjoy, I am an advocate of work life balance and understand the importance as well as the damage it can cause if we don’t get the balance right.

We should be encouraging flexibility and allowing people to take responsibility of their own work life balance. I have worked with organisations who have taken the responsibility and set out their own expectations by adopting email curfews – Volkswagen in Germany took the incentive to stop sending emails after working hours back in 2012. This has proven to have a positive effect on peoples wellbeing by empowering people to take responsibility of their own wellbeing.

Food for thought….?
